Cleaning
Steel is used to make some of the best fire pits. The patterns can look fantastic in the back garden and are long-lasting. Another advantage of steel is that it resists rust but develops a beautiful greenish patina over time.
The firepit is simple to clean and doesn’t require anything elaborate.
To clean:
- Wait until the fire pit is absolutely cool. Keep in mind that heated ashes might be hazardous.
- With a little shovel (a child’s beach spade works well), gather the ashes after you are certain they are no longer warm. Place them outside in a metal bucket with a lid. The wood ash can then be applied to flowerbeds or placed on a compost pile. As a natural supply of potassium and a liming agent, it is useful for treating excessively acidic soils.
- Put on some safety gloves and clean the fire pit basin with warm soapy water. Normal dish soap and a soft towel should work just fine. Then rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
- Dry thoroughly. This is essential because a steel fire pit can rust if left moist.
- Before storing your steel fire pit, apply a layer of oil (of any kind) to keep the damp off.
